You can’t understand Colombia without its independence story, and this journey takes you to the places where that story actually happened: the Bridge of Boyac\u00e1, the Pantano de Vargas battlefield, the squares where freedom was first proclaimed in 1810. These are the landmarks every Colombian grows up studying \u2014 and very few international travelers ever see firsthand.<\/p>

The route runs from Bogot\u00e1 to Popay\u00e1n, crosses the colonial towns of Boyac\u00e1 and Santander, and ends on the Caribbean coast: Santa Marta, where Bol\u00edvar died; Aracataca, the town Garc\u00eda M\u00e1rquez turned into Macondo; and Cartagena, the Spanish stronghold that became a symbol of freedom.         Colombia doesn’t have four seasons; it has rainy and dry periods. The best windows for this route are December through March and July through August, the driest months in both the Andes and the Caribbean.                     Designing a private journey means committing from day one to boutique hotels, expert guides, and experiences with limited availability. Our terms reflect the actual costs we assume with our partners on your behalf \u2014 nothing more, nothing less. And because we know plans change, we will always try to reschedule your trip before cancelling it.<\/p>

                    Booking and payments<\/strong><\/p>

                    Your trip is confirmed with a 30% deposit. This deposit is non-refundable, but it is fully transferable: if you need to cancel, you keep it as credit toward any InContext journey within the following 12 months.<\/p>

                    The remaining balance is due 45 days before your trip begins.<\/p>

                    If you need to change your dates<\/strong><\/p>

                    You may reschedule your trip once at no charge, with at least 30 days’ notice. The only conditions are availability and any fare difference the new dates may carry.<\/p>

                    If you need to cancel<\/strong><\/p>

                    • 60 days or more before departure: full refund of all payments, except the deposit, which remains as credit in your favor.<\/li>
                    • Between 59 and 30 days: 50% refund of the total trip cost.<\/li>
                    • Between 29 and 15 days: 25% refund of the total trip cost.<\/li>
                    • Less than 15 days before departure, or no-show: no refund. However, if we are able to recover any amounts from our local partners, we will return them to you.<\/li><\/ul>

                      Peak season<\/strong><\/p>

                      Between December 15 and January 15, and during Easter week (Semana Santa), all deadlines above move up by 15 days. Hotels and services in Colombia apply stricter conditions during these dates, and we pass them on exactly as they are \u2014 with no additional markup of our own.<\/p>

                      Domestic flights<\/strong><\/p>

                      Air tickets included in your program are subject to each airline’s change and refund policies, as regulated by Colombia’s Civil Aviation Authority.<\/p>
